Candida Yeast Infection Prevention

There are some everyday lifestyle changes any woman can practice to help cut her risk of a yeast infection. Since yeast fungus loves dark moist warm places, the best method of prevention is your lifestyle.

Completing some simple steps ensures that your body takes care of itself and you remain yeast-free. Given the annoying symptoms of yeast infections, prevention is completely worth the occasional inconveniences.

Moisture is the key to developing yeast infections. Moisture results in the vaginal area when it doesn’t have enough air and circulation moving past it. The vagina is very rich in blood vessels, and so it is prone to sweating and moisture buildup. You should always wear cotton underwear and loose jeans when you wear denim. This allows air to flow to the vaginal area, which cuts down on moisture. It also helps cut down on odor. Cotton absorbs moisture and draws it away from your body. Polyester and synthetic fabrics only trap moisture.

The biology of the woman is also another confounding factor that makes us susceptible to yeast infections. The anal passage is located very close to the vagina, which creates a very favorable environment for infection. To help mitigate this, always wipe from front to back after using the restroom to minimize bacteria from the anus from getting access to the vagina.

A well balanced diet and lifestyle is one of the most important factors. Stress cuts down on your immune system. While some stress is healthy, letting stress dictate your life will ruin your immune system and leave you miserable. The immune system plays an important role in keeping yeast fungus in check within the vagina. When you let stresses overcome your life, you immune system is almost halved. This is when you’re most likely to get a yeast infection, on top of many other infections out there!

Before you begin a regiment of antibiotics, make sure you practice very cautious hygiene and take probiotic supplements to support healthy bacteria in the vagina. Antibiotics kill beneficial bacteria in the vagina, and this leaves an open niche for yeast to flourish. Taking probiotics won’t negate the antibiotic, but it will help stabilize the bacteria in the vagina. This is also true if you need to take steroids or are diabetic.

Proper hygiene is also very important to preventing yeast infections. Always wash your vaginal area with fragrance-free soap, at least once a day and every time you engage in sexual activity. Avoid douching, because it affects the pH of the vagina and can actually create a yeast-favorable environment. Avoid scented tampons as the scent can irritate the vagina. Also, avoid scented lotions that can irritate the outer skin and leave the vagina more susceptible.

Yeast infections are a common malady that most women can relate to. Using preventative and remedial care can mitigate your yeast infection risks and treat any active infection you have now. When you reduce your risk, you save time and money by not needing to buy expensive yeast infection medication and treatments. Prevention is always better than cure.
